The Hermanus Golf Estate including expansion of the golf course, development of various residential estates and related infrastructure received Environmental Authorisation (EA) in ~2002. A portion of the proposed Hermanus CBD Bypass Road (subject to a separate Environmental Impact Assessment [EIA] process) passes through Precinct 3 (Fairways Close) of the Hermanus Golf Estate, necessitating an amendment to the Hermanus Golf Estate EA. The 125m portion of the road traversing Fairways Close (on Erf 10558, Hermanus) will affect two residential properties as well as a portion of the wetland. A wetland offset elsewhere on the Hermanus Golf Estate has been identified to mitigate impacts on the wetland. Owners of affected properties will be fairly compensated. Application for the EA amendment will be made by the Provincial Government Western Cape: Department of Infrastructure (DoI) to facilitate construction of the Hermanus CBD Bypass Road.
The DoI has appointed SRK Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SRK) to undertake the required EA Amendment Application processes in terms of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998 and the EIA Regulations, 2014, as amended.
Erf 10558, Hermanus
The applicant – the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure - has decided not to proceed with the Hermanus CBD Bypass project in its current form and therefore intends withdrawing the applications for both the Hermanus CBD Bypass Environmental Authorisation (EA) as well as the Amendment to the EA for the Hermanus Golf Course. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and EA Amendment processes have thus both been terminated and no further input or comments from stakeholders are required.
