SRK Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SRK) was appointed by BUA Cement Plc (BUA) in December 2021 to conduct an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for a new production line, production line 5, in the cement production plant and, in doing so, assess impacts associated with current operations including production line 4 in the cement production plant. Construction of production line 4, which increased the production capacity from the historical 1.5 million tons per annum (MTPA) by an additional 3 MTPA, has been completed and was commissioned during January and February 2022, i.e. coinciding with the baseline studies that are reported in the ESIA report. The production line 5 expansion (yet to be constructed) is for a further 3 MTPA and is largely a duplication of the Line 4.
