Astron Energy (Pty) Ltd (Astron Energy) operates the Klerksdorp terminal on Erf 1418 in Klerksdorp Industrial under an Atmospheric Emission Licence (AEL) (Ref. No.: NWPG/CHEVRON/AEL2.2/MARCH13) granted in terms of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act 39 of 2004 (NEM:AQA). The AEL expires on 31 March 2020.
Astron Energy is therefore applying, in terms of section 47 of the NEM:AQA, to renew this AEL to continue the following listed activity:
- Category 2: Petroleum Industry - the production of gaseous and liquid fuels as well as petrochemicals from crude oil, coal, gas or biomass:
- Subcategory 2.4: Storage and Handling of Petroleum Products.
Astron Energy is also applying to transfer the AEL from the previous company name [Chevron (Pty) Ltd] to the new company name (Astron Energy) in terms of section 44 of the NEM:AQA.
SRK Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SRK) has been appointed as the independent environmental assessment practitioner, to facilitate the required public participation process.
