Mondi Richards Bay Mill is proposing the decommissioning of two existing power boilers at its Richards Bay Mill and the installation of a new Multi Fuel Boiler (MFB), which has the capacity to burn both coal and biomass and will replace the existing boilers which have reached end-of-life. This new technology will enable Mondi to increase use of cleaner fuels in the long term. The construction of the MFB is yet to commence and Mondi is now proposing changes to the MFB layout and design as well as changes to the biomass handling area. All activities remain within the current Mill industrial footprint (Lot 6724 Alton, Richards Bay).
