PDAC 2021

Short Course:

Modern Techniques in Applied Structural Geology in Exploration

Available: March 5, 2021 onward   |   Live Discussion and Q&A: March 12, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Structural geology is an important factor in the formation and post-mineralization modification of nearly all ore deposits. Structural geology has an impact at all scales, from regional patterns to individual ore bodies. Understanding the structural geology of your project provides a foundation for successful exploration, resource definition and estimation, and effective and safe extraction.

This workshop has been redesigned for remote learning and focusses on new techniques and recent advances in understanding the structural control on ore deposits. This course will be cutting edge, including the integration of computer aided techniques for interpretation and analysis. Based on a fundamental foundation of structural geology this course will equip you with the tools and confidence to apply structural geology effectively and add value to your projects, from regional grassroots exploration to mine-scale models.

Course Outline:

  • Fundamental concepts of structural geology and structural mapping techniques
  • Analysis of structures in drill core, logging analysis, and 3D visualization and interpretation of geology and mineralization
  • Analysis of faults, veins, and their associated systems
  • Analysis of folded rocks
  • Attendees are invited to submit questions regarding structural geology concepts and techniques prior to or during the live session
  • During the live Q&A, attendees are invited to share specific structural geology challenges they are facing on their project and our panel of experts will provide suggestions on how to solve them
