"When urban development is undertaken without considering existing groundwater conditions, the result can be regular flooding that damages buildings and infrastructure.

Ismail Mahomed, partner and principal hydrogeologist at SRK Consulting said "a number of factors led to increasing recharge levels to the shallow groundwater systems". Recent SRK projects abroad and localy have demonstrated similar challengers related to groundwater flooding.

The urban development project that SRK Consulting focused on recently was a development in the Middle East, where the water was rising above ground level.
