Short Project Title: Integrated Water and Waste Management Plan: Dube TradePort Corporation

SRK Consulting South Africa (Pty) Ltd. was appointed by Dube TradePort Corporation (DTPC) to undertake the Water Use License Application process, which is required in terms of Section 21 of the National Water Act (No. 36 of 1998) (NWA) (as amended).

Project Synopsis: Dube TradePort Corporation is a Schedule 3C public entity whose sole shareholder is the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Provincial Government and is wholly funded by the Province's Department of Economic Development.

In the development of the site, on-site wetlands were or are expected to be impacted upon and surface water management measures will need to be designed to mitigate the potential for contamination of water courses. Further to the above, and in consultation with the former Department of Water Affairs (DWA), now the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), Dube TradePort Corporation is required to apply for a Water Use Licence (WULA) in terms of Section 21 National Water Act (No. 36 of 1998) (NWA).

Dube TradePort Corporation has commissioned SRK Consulting (Pty) Ltd (SRK) to facilitate the Water Use Licence Application (WULA) process on their behalf, including the compilation of an Integrated Water and Waste Management Plan (IWWMP), in compliance with Chapter 4 of the National Water Act, Act 36 of 1998 (NWA). The IWWMP serves to support the WULA for the water uses associated with the site and future activities.

Project Location: The DTPC operations are located north of Durban at La Mercy within the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality of KZN. The site is located along the National Route 2 (N2). The operations are situated between the M43 Watson Highway and the Tongati River to the north, the N2 to the east, the R102 to the immediate west and the uMdloti River to the south.
