Darryll Kilian

Darryll has a Masters in Environmental and Geographical Science from the University of Cape Town. Darryll is a partner of SRK South Africa and presently heads the Environmental Department in SRK Johannesburg. He has worked on a wide range of environmental and social projects throughout Africa. He regularly participates in due diligence audits and reviews for companies and lenders to identify potential environmental risks and liabilities. He often serves as project partner and technical reviewer on large international-standard environmental and social impact assessments, including those projects that form part of bankable feasibility studies that need to meet international lender requirements. Darryll has been involved in strategy review and planning as well as sustainability reporting projects for government. He was a member of the drafting team for the South African Sustainable Development Framework that informed South Africa’s Strategy for Sustainable Development that informed the country’s National Development Plan. In the past few years, Darryll led the teams that prepared Namibia’s second integrated state of the environment report with funding from GiZ, drafted a World Bank-funded environmental and social management framework to fast-track priority power projects to bankability in SADC mainland countries and designed a strategic management plan for the environmental sector in Uganda with support from UNDP.  Most recently, he has participated in the preparation of a 10-year regional groundwater programme for the SADC Groundwater Management Institute. These and other projects afford Darryll a unique understanding of the development sector in the region and the specific requirements of donors and financial institutions.
