ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION FOR THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF A COAL DE-STONING PLANT AND ASSOCIATED DISCARD DISPOSAL SITE FOR ANGLO AMERICAN THERMAL COAL’S NEW DENMARK COLLIERY NEAR STANDERTON, MPUMALANGA PROVINCE
The Anglo American Thermal Coal (AATC) New Denmark Colliery (NDC) near Standerton in the Lekwa Local Municipality, Mpumalanga Province is the primary supplier of coal to Eskom’s Tutuka Power Station. NDC proposes to establish a coal de-stoning plant to meet Eskom’s requirement for improved quality coal, by removing impurities such as stone and shale from the raw coal, and supplying improved quality or ‘washed’ coal. Before NDC can commence with the proposed project, the following environmental authorisation applications need to be undertaken:
