  • Engineering Geology

Expertise:

Peter Terbrugge has been involved in engineering geology and rock slope stability for the past 23 years. His expertise, with some project examples, includes:

  • Feasibility studies and slope design for conventional pits and strip mining operations; design of remedial measures, supervision and installation of rock reinforcement in open pit mining operations in order to maintain access in critical areas. Projects include open pit slope design for large copper mines in Zambia and Zaire, diamond mines in Lesotho, Botswana and South Africa; slope design studies for Rössing Uranium; open pit gold mines.
  • Investigation, design and supervision of a number of civil engineering projects comprising rail and road cuttings; rock mass classification, tunnel support assessment and quality control of tunnelling operations.
  • Site investigations, design and supervision of excavation and support installation of underground openings and an instrumentation test programme.
  • Site investigations for dams, reservoirs, bridges and roads; route and material location for dams and roads; stability analyses and designs for cuts and fill.
  • Exploration for refractory minerals in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Ore reserve estimation and mining in both open cast and underground operations.
  • Field mapping, location and logging of boreholes in both open pits and underground development and surveying and preparation of annual mine plans for the GME.
